Soviet “Young Naturalist” Award Badge.
GUARANTEED ORIGINAL circa 1950s -60s award, not a more recent issue or a replica!
Very well made piece in Brass and Enamels; measures 30.1 x 26.5 mm. Reverse shows raised mark “MMD” of the Moscow Mint.
The badge shows two young pioneers with a microscope (are they getting ready for germ warfare or simply observing amoeba in its natural habitat? We will never know)
The badge is in GOOD condition. The enamel appears perfect on the first glance but close examination reveals a tiny chip to the green border at approx. 12 o’clock position. There are also a couple of microscopic flakes in other places but the overall appearance is great, with nice luster to enamel and perfect details. Most of the original fire gilt finish is still present. The pin attachment is fully functional.
This uncommon badge can be a good addition to a collection of Communist Youth awards or early Soviet badges.
