    Description

Russian Medal for Distinguished Service in Guarding the State Border, post-Soviet transitional issue, 1992-94.
This is GUARANTEED ORIGINAL Medal made at the Russian Mint to be awarded by the Yeltsin government in the first few years after the collapse of the Soviet Union – NOT a replica or later issue!
The medallion is in German silver; measures 32.1 mm wide; weighs 16.6 g. The reverse is identical to the Soviet era Border Guard medals. The reverse does not show bottom line with "CCCP".
In excellent condition. The raised details are pristine, show no visible wear. There are a few tiny dings to the raised edge that are visible under magnification but practically unnoticeable to the naked eye. The silver finish shows attractive uniform toning with only tiny spots of light tarnish that add character, no blemishes or significant oxidation. The old, possibly original ribbon is immaculately clean.
This variation was issued for only a brief period, until the introduction of the new Russian Federation awards in 1995.
