Tools needed: 1 hammer and 1 flat head screw driver. WD-40 is optional and will help.

#2 Hold one of the legs in 1 hand and apply some pressure as if you are removing the base.
#3 Use hammer to strike the area around the RIM. DO NOT STRIKE IN CENTER WHERE CLIP IS. Rotate where you are striking until base comes off. Some will be easier than others, as it depends on your weight and how long you've been using chair.
#4 Insert flat head screw driver on the upper portion of clip as shown in picture.
#5 Twist screw driver until you see the upper portion of the clip is raised over the shaft.
#6 With other hand push clip in opposite direction using your finger until clip slides out.
#7 Slide column out being careful as washers and ball bearing might fall out as you slide column out. In some instances, some of this hardware might get stuck inside the column.
#8 Remove any hardware from the gas spring.
#9 Spray WD-40 in area where the cylinder is. Wait a couple of hours to allow to penetrate.
