Description
Guerlain Shalimar Baccarat 70 ml 5 6/8" Tall 60% Full of Parfum Extrait c. 1930-49 in theFlacon Chauve Souris (The Bat) Bottle! The craftsmanship of this bottle is unreal! The bottom has the following etched information on the lower right side:
GUERLAIN
PARIS (CIRCLE BACCARAT LOGO UNDER THE BLUE/RED STICKER) FRANCE
BOTTLE MADE IN FRANCE
16 (<--the "16" is hand-carved)
Some fantastic features of this bottle include:
* There is a visible upside down "20" on the back side of the label that can be seen in-person through the back of the bottle. The back of the paper label also says in reddish font, "Made in France" and the upside down 20 is just above the Made in France line.
* The opening appears to have an applied lip as shown in the pictures. There is still some of the original paper around the opening is still present and caught up in the tie. The opening in the lip is slightly off-center (from the hand application), which gives it charm.
* The stopper is like mercury glass. It has a blue/purple/and even some green tint and the "Guerlain Paris" has a hologram-like or tintype appearance (it isn't painted like the new style). It is absolutely beautiful! The letters are in a dark blue. The blue body of the stopper isn't sold like today's stoppers. The blue is mottled and darker in some places and lighter in others. Please review the pictures to see what we mean. There is also a hand-carved "16" on the flat part of the stoppers end (that matches the "16" carved on the bottom of the bottle).
The bottle has a minimal amount of damage as follows:
* The opening is rough and has some flea bites as shown in the pictures. Again, the lip appears to be hand-applied, so this damage may have been part of the manufacturing process. But, please use your own judgement.
* The stopper has some tiny flea bites as shown in the pictures. One of the bites on the ground-flat portion of the stopper looks like it has been sanded down, so it could have been part of the manufacturing process. Under a loop, that same bite looks like half of a bubble - like the stopper plug was cut flat, and then the slight bevel was added to the tip and they ran into a bubble, so it was sanded down. Again, please take a look at the pictures. There are no other chips as shown. The lack of additional damage also leads us to believe that the damage around the lip opening may be more from the manufacturing process and not so much from the stopper hitting the sides of the opening. We went over the blue portion of the stopper and aside from the half-shaved-bubble-looking potential issue described above, there is no other damage.
* The parfum has some sediment floating in it, but it smells DIVINE. SOOOO RICH!
* There is a scratch on the front of the bottle to the left of the label and another on the right-lower side of the label as show in detail in the pictures.
* There is a small flea bite on the underside bevel of the base. There is also a flat-ish part on the scalloped edge that is slightly different than the others, but it is polished so if this were a defect, the manufacturer polished it over (we wouldn't get the camera to pick it up).
* The paper label on front of the bottle has a very interesting patina to it. The letters that make up the word "SHALIMAR" and the border of the label are in relief (raised).
* The underside of the base has some scratches from use as shown in the pictures.
The bottle measures approximately
5 6/8" tall x 4" wide x 1 7/8" deep
(across the opening - it's hard to gauge exactly since measuring over the opening neck is lumpy). The base measures
2 5/8" long x 1 5/8" wide
.
