    Description

This rare, early service plate was used in the dining room of the historic Narragansett Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island, sometime during the 1890's to 1911. (One of my photos is from the period and shows the Narragansett dining room set with these very plates.) This 10-inch plate was custom created by the Maddock Pottery Company, Lamberton Works, New Jersey, as shown by the early 'M CHINA L'  backmark, which was only in use until about 1911 .Maddock Pottery was the producer of some of the most beautiful hotel china ever created. The plate has some scattered, light surface scratches and a chip on the bottom rim at about the 7 o' clock position which is clearly shown in the photos. These early plates rarely surface today and are easily one of the most iconic and desirable relics from the early days of this landmark hotel. Don't miss this chance to enjoy that next special dinner on the same plate that those old Rhode Islanders used so long ago.
