The Purple Heart is the first American military award to be established at the state (federal) level. Its appearance refers to the final period of the US War of Independence (1782). The award acquired its modern appearance and status in the 30s of the twentieth century, the Order on its introduction into the US award system was issued by the War Department in 1932, on February 22.
