781st Maintenance Battalion Unit Crest DI DUI Insignia IRA Green Ordnance 1994

Description

This sale is for a clutch-back enamel Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI/DI) for the 781st Maintenance Battalion of the US Army. The pin is marked on the back-"G23 Made In U.S.A" and "1994." The hallmark is for the  IRA GREEN Company. This is a modern clutch-back version as used today. The item is in excellent condition and measures regulation size at about 1 X 1 1/8 inches.
The design for this DI dates to June 9, 1964, when it was approved by the Army. The unit's motto is "Semper Sustinere," (LATIN: "To Sustain Always") which appears on the crest.  The unit crest draws on heraldic imagery from the unit's service in WWI- ailerons, from the Coat of Arms of Lorraine. And the sun from the flag of the Philippines, where the unit saw service in WWII.
