    Description

This nice white ironstone footed bowl is from the
McCune Home of Jackson County Missouri
just east of Independence, MO. and is dated
    1940
. The bowl is in nice condition with only normal to light use wear showing, not bad for being 81 years old. I am not sure if it is a serving bowl or a wash bowl. It measures 9
    7/8
    ” across the top x 5
    1/8
” across the bottom and is 3 ¼” tall. It has the Shenango makers stamp on bottom.
    No Cracks or Chips.
For a little history of the McCune Home:
The first juvenile court judge of Jackson County, MO was Judge Henry McCune.  He did not want to jail young boys who got into trouble, that had been from bad homes or orphaned. He thought they would benefit from a home type of environment. These boys were from ages 8 to 18 and were to have schooling along with a life skills program in the home and farm with house mothers and fathers.  The home first opened on April 16, 1908 and was on 100 acres, part of an old farmstead.
